  • Zusatztext
    • This version includes both the textbook and LaunchPad Access. Introduction to the Practice of Statistics shows students how to produce and interpret data from real-world contexts, guiding them through the same type of data gathering and analysis that working statisticians do every day. With this phenomenally successful approach originally developed by David Moore and George McCabe, statistics is more than just a collection of techniques and formulas. Instead, students develop a systematic way of thinking about data, with a focus on problem-solving that helps them understand statistical concepts and master statistical reasoning. With the LaunchPad version of the textbook, both the print and online resource are combined, putting powerful statistical tools and interactive learning features in students' hands.

  • Kurztext
    • Suitable content examines the nature of modern statistical, focusing on the production and analysis of data as well as the traditional topics of probability and inference. Inference is treated as a tool that helps statisticians draw conclusions from data in an appropriate way. Applications are culled from a wide range of disciplines and fields to keep students engaged. Data analysis as depicted as more than a collection of techniques for exploring data.  Cautionary discussions (with accompany icon) warn students about pitfalls in clear. Real examples drive the exposition so students learn the conceptual ties between regression and correlation and the importance of looking for influential observations. "Beyond the Basics" sections give quick overviews of topics such as density estimation, scatterplot smoothers, data mining, nonlinear regression, and meta-analysis.  Objectives at the beginning of each section identify what students will learn by the end of the section. "Use Your Knowledge" exercises throughout each section and are listed, with page numbers, before the section ending exercises. "Look Back" margin notes direct students to the first explanation of a topic, providing page numbers for easy reference. "Challenge" exercises require deeper thought about the basic concepts. Applets icons signal where related interactive statistical applets can be found on the IPS website and in LaunchPad.
