    • The River Ganga is the largest river basin in the Indian subcontinent. It is the life line of the riparian population. The Ganga originates in the Garhwal Himalayas (30 0 55 N, 70 0 7E) from the Gaumukh ice-cave of the Gangotri glacier under the name of Bhagirathi at an elevation of 4,100 m above msl. After travelling of total length of 2700 km the river ends in Bay of Bengal at Ganga Sagar. It harvours a vast Ichthyofaunal diversity. In Present study 106 Fish species were recorded which indicates rich source of fish and fisheries in the stretch of the river Ganga.

    • Rajesh Kr. Sinha did his Ph.D from Patna University on Evaluation and Assessment of fish diversity in the lower stretch of the river Ganga in Bihar under the supervision of Ravindra Kr. Sinha, a river ecologist of International repute. At present, Dr. Sinha is Dean, Centre of Earth, Environmental and Biological Science, Central University of Bihar.
