    • Family Welfare Programme is a measure which not only aims at birth control but also focuses on family welfare particularly the human health. Hence, family welfare is required to be fulfilled through family service of social agencies. It aims to assist the individuals in the family to develop their capacities to live personally satisfying and socially useful lives in the family. In the context of Family Welfare Programme, the family welfare approach joins with the growing concerns of government of social progress. The family welfare message that it carries is oriented towards the health of the mother and child, the possibilities for better nutrition, housing and education. In this context, Family Welfare Programme is concerned about reproductive health, child survival and fertility regulation. However, its success depends upon the active cooperation and support of the people, especially women. The role of women and womens organization is of crucial importance as they are the one who are vitally affected and stand to gain the most. Status of women (in terms of education, employment and health) is crucial for the better performance of Family Welfare Programme.
