What are the political and aesthetic dimensions of video art, documentary, and global cinema in contemporary image culture? Lynes makes visible how sites of political struggle, exploitation, and armed conflict can be interpreted through a feminist politics of location, attentive to the frictions and flows within transnational circuits of exchange.

TIMELY: Expands consideration of the role of media in representing and shaping social and political life and provides a critically useful historical analysis of the role of video in visualizing political struggle - such as in the Balkans, in urban India, in Israel/Palestine, and in Afghanistan. ORIGINAL: Provides scholars with a method of approaching the representational strategies in experimental film/video genres. INTERDISCIPLINARY: Complements and extends critical writings in feminist studies (particularly transnational politics), contemporary art, and documentary studies, and argues for the entanglement of these fields in constituting global feminism as an object of study. GLOBAL: Extends early anthologies on video to considerations outside North America, and to the intersections of street tape, fine art installation, documentary and activist video in contemporary media formations.
