    • Derelict areas on riverbanks, often near urban centers, exist in virtually all large and medium-size cities in Europe and America. Today, regional river landscapes like the Rhine in the Cologne/Bonn region, the Seine in Paris, and the Thames in London are increasingly being rediscovered and redesigned as attractive urban living environments. This book offers an in-depth look at the measures involved in revitalizing industrial riverbank areas. It uses the examples of already completed projects to thematize the city-planning measures involved as well as project development and financing strategies and specific problems, such as building in areas where there is danger of flooding. The first two sections of the book focus on the city-planning development potential of the Rhine riverbank, particularly in the Cologne/Bonn region. The extensive third section contains a collection of ninety example projects from throughout Europe.
