  • Zusatztext
    • This volume represents the publication of the MS thesis of Ing. E. Lepore, supervised by Prof. N. Pugno, which reports the adhesive abilities of the Tokay gecko (Gekko gecko), which is the most studied gecko among more than 1050 Gekkonid lizard species in the world. However, certain phenomena about geckos are still not completely understood and this book aims at better understanding the geckos adhesive ability, which still represents the main challenge of several scientific discussions in this field. When the adhesive mechanisms in nature become completely understood, the transfer-into-technology process of a superadhesive and reusable material will be the next inevitable step to industrialization. The industrial application of a superadhesive and reusable material could be mainly for space, civil and biomedical applications.

  • Autorenportrait
    • E. Lepore works as a Postdoctoral Fellow in the research group of Prof. N. Pugno at the Department of Structural, Geotechnical and Building Engineering at Politecnico of Turin, Italy. His research includes bio- and nano-mechanics, bio-inspired materials such as adhesive (geckos), anti-adhesive superhydrophobic and self-cleaning (lotus) and tough (spider silk) materials.
